TuneAd (English)

TuneAd, a low-cost Tune. This idea appears for first time in the Spanish work of literature, “ReNé, nueva era de la música” (05/10/2007) that means “ReNé, new age of music”, written by Carlos Miguel Seco. In this work Carlos defines TuneAd as “la unión de una canción y un anuncio publicitario, es decir, un tema de un artista que incorpora un spot publicitario” that means “the union of a tune and advertising, in other words, a song with a spot of marketing”.

An example of TuneAd would be a song where you can hear a sparkling bottle opening and an invitation to buy it, followed by a music band’s single.

The TuneAd pretends to be an even cheaper alternative than the Tune. Following this theory there could coexist two types of songs:

  • The normal song, as we know so far. (Tune)

  • The low cost song, which includes publicity and keeps identical quality of sound as the normal one. (TuneAd)

Besides, and as a consequence there will coexist two types of CD (or support):

  • The normal CD as we know so far.

  • The low-cost CD, which could include TunesAd and/or visual publicity on the wrapper.

TuneAd’s Objective

The TuneAd and the low cost CD are proposals that aim to be a big advantage for everybody:

- The general public: The TuneAd pretends to get a reduction in the music prices.

- The companies and media agencies: This proposal would be useful for all the companies, which are looking for a new effective publicity media. Carlos in his work highlights the marketing power that music possesses and has not been used so far.

- The music industry: The TuneAd and the low-cost CD would be a new type of product that this industry could offer.

- Our classmate:

  • We have a classmate who would like to play the guitar and has met with others to start up a band. However, the instruments that they would need are expensive not to mention the renting of space to play in.

  • Following this idea, now all music bands worldwide can have a chance, from the veteran bands to the newly formed, in all types of music genres.

  • To demonstrate this idea we can take the band that I have mentioned earlier, they go to a cafe/restaurant opposite a school or university and ask them for sponsorship for their demo. They give the cafe the opportunity to add an advertisement to the demo (TuneAd and low-cost demo) and deliver it around the area. Now the tune is highly publicised resulting in this particular cafe becoming renowned, popular and even the coolest around. The band gains as they have earned enough money to be able to rent a room to play in.

  • Our classmate’s dream could only be achieved with the creation of the Tune Ad and the low-cost CD.
